Health & Wellbeing

Your child’s health, safety, and wellbeing are our top priorities in childcare. Here, you can find detailed information about our policies and procedures related to health, medication, and accident management at Orange Seeds Montessori Childcare. We are dedicated to providing a secure and nurturing environment for your child.

    • In the event that your child becomes unwell or requires medical attention while at our daycare, one of our teachers or supervisor will assess the situation and contact you promptly. We kindly request that you collect your child as soon as possible.

    • Please note that if your child has a fever of 37°C or above, is vomiting, experiencing episodes of diarrhea, or is deemed unwell by our staff, they will not be permitted to continue their day at the daycare. You will be asked to pick them up promptly, and this policy must be strictly adhered to in order to ensure the well-being of all children in our care.

    • Our policy stipulates that students must stay at home for at least 24 hours after being discharged from daycare due to a fever of 37.5°C or higher or vomiting. To return to daycare, your child must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. Additionally, if your child experiences diarrhea, they must stay at home for 48 hours after their last episode.

    • In the event of a suspected or confirmed infectious illness diagnosis (e.g., influenza, hand, foot and mouth disease, measles, mumps, chickenpox, meningitis, scarlet fever, etc.), please promptly contact our daycare and provide a medical report. This allows us to take necessary measures and notify other parents, if needed.

    • If your child has a broken bone or reduced mobility, please inform our staff and provide a doctor’s discharge report specifying the diagnosis and care needs. This will enable our teachers or supervisors to offer appropriate support and care, especially during emergencies. For children with limited mobility, a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) must be in place. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all children in our daycare.

    • Parents must ensure that their children are vaccinated in accordance with the guidelines outlined by Public Health Ontario. If parents choose not to vaccinate their child, they do so at their own discretion and risk. In such cases, they are required to provide a Statement of Conscience or Religious Belief for Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 compliance.

    • Upon admission to our program, parents are required to submit a copy of their child’s immunization records. These records must be in English or officially translated into English to ensure compliance with health regulations. We are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all children in our child care, and accurate immunization records are vital in achieving this goal.

    • Furthermore, if a child receives vaccinations after being admitted to our program, parents are obligated to promptly notify the program supervisor and provide updated immunization records. This helps us ensure that our records remain up-to-date, and we can continue to provide a safe and healthy environment for all children in our child care.

    • Parents must provide complete and accurate authorization forms for medication administration. These forms should specify schedules, doses, and, for over-the-counter medications, include a doctor's note.

    • Parents are kindly requested to provide medications directly to a teacher or supervisor and not leave them in their child's backpack. This ensures proper handling and administration in accordance with our policy.

    • Medications must be in original containers, clearly labeled with necessary information. Any missing details must be updated.

    • Medications are stored securely, accessible only to authorized staff. Emergency medications are readily available but out of reach of children. Expired medications are returned to parents.

    • Medications are administered as per label instructions, from original containers, and with appropriate dispensers. Expired medications are never administered.

    • Detailed records of medication administration, including missed doses, are maintained in the child's file. Parents are promptly informed of any missed or late doses.

  • We understand that allergies can be a concern for parents, which is why we've developed a comprehensive Anaphylactic Policy to ensure a secure environment for all daycare attendees. We are a nut-free Montessori daycare.

    • Prior to your child's enrolment, our team will have a discussion with you regarding your child's health, especially if they have allergies. We collaborate closely with parents and healthcare professionals to create individualized plans for children with anaphylactic allergies. These personalized plans detail the specific symptoms and emergency procedures tailored to each child's needs. Our entire staff is well-informed about these plans to provide the best care possible.

    • Parents are responsible for notifying the daycare of any changes to their child's allergies or medical needs. It's crucial to keep the individualized plan and emergency procedures up to date to ensure the child's safety. We encourage parents to communicate any changes promptly, so we can adjust our care accordingly.

    • We take food allergies seriously by serving only items with known ingredients. We verify all food ingredients before serving to ensure safety. We do not allow food brough from home at our daycare. Our staff, students, and volunteers are well-versed in your child's plan. An updated allergy list is maintained and adhered to diligently.

    • We understand that some children may require specialized attention and support to reach their full potential. If your child shows signs of needing additional services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, or other specialized assistance, we are here to help.

    • In the event that your child may benefit from specialized services, we will refer you to Children's Services in our community. The Resource Consultant from Children's Services will reach out to you and discuss the potential support options available.

    • Your privacy and confidentiality are important to us. The Resource Consultant will request your consent before proceeding with any observations or assessments. This process is designed to be respectful and collaborative, ensuring that you are an active participant in your child's journey.

    • Upon receiving your consent, the Resource Consultant will conduct an observation to better understand your child's unique needs and strengths. Based on this observation, they will provide recommendations and strategies to our teachers on how to best support your child within our Montessori environment.

    • We believe in teamwork and open communication. Our teachers will work closely with the Resource Consultant and follow their recommendations to create an individualized plan that caters to your child's specific needs. Together, we will support your child's growth, development, and learning.

  • The following forms and documents need to be sent to the Orange Seeds Montessori Centre, through the Admissions Office, before your child starts at our daycare.

  • Information in your child's daycare Health Record will not be released to third parties, except with written permission from parents or guardians, or a directive from the Department of Health or other relevant authorities.
